7 minute guide

Florida homemaker and companion services: a family guide

For Florida families checking whether a provider accurately describes its authority and scope.

What the registration tells you

  • The provider is registered in the homemaker and companion service category
  • The registration number should appear in advertising, including a website
  • The provider may offer housekeeping, cooking, errands, and companionship within the category’s limits

What the registration does not authorize

  • Hands-on personal care such as bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, or transfers
  • Nursing, therapy, treatment, medication administration, or clinical monitoring
  • A guarantee of availability, price, continuity, response time, insurance coverage, or a particular outcome

How to verify a provider

Use Florida Health Finder to search the current provider record. Match the legal or public name, registration number, status, and service area. Ask the provider to explain any difference you find rather than assuming an old screenshot or brochure is current.

What to verify beyond registration

  • The exact tasks and service schedule in writing
  • Current rates, minimums, cancellation terms, and payment process
  • How the company handles communication, schedule changes, and an out-of-scope request
  • Any screening, training, insurance, or continuity claim the company makes
